ABOUT DR. CHOY
Dr. Lawrence Choy is a Stanford Trained Psychiatrist in private practice in Silicon Valley and a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Born and raised in San Francisco, he attended UC Berkeley, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, earning a bachelor’s degree with Honors in Molecular & Cell Biology. After receiving his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, he returned home to the SF Bay Area for his medical and psychiatry training at Stanford University Hospital & Clinics, where he served as Chief Resident in his final year. He completed additional training at the Palo Alto Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training Program of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis to further his development as a psychotherapist.
He has more than 11 years of clinical experience treating diverse patient populations in multiple clinical settings ranging from community mental health centers to acute psychiatric hospitals. He co-founded a psychiatric practice (Portola Wellness) and a specialty clinic treating Adult ADHD and cognitive performance (Elite Focus Clinic), both located in the heart of Silicon Valley. At EFC, he serves as the Medical Director, where he enjoys teaching, training, and supervising other clinicians. His treatment approach incorporates the most up-to-date medication strategies, while combining his expertise in clinical neuroscience, psychotherapy, and wellness practices. He is regularly asked and invited to give educational talks about Adult ADHD to other doctors, clinicians, and medical practices, including the healthcare teams that provide care to the big tech companies in Silicon Valley.
Dr. Choy is a recognized thought leader in his field. He is a GLG Council Member where he shares his expertise in mental health. He is a contributing writer for Thrive Global and a physician contributor author for Healthgrades. He was selected to attend the Lake Nona Impact Forum, where leaders and visionaries from business, academia, government and industry sectors convene to drive creative, innovative health and wellness solutions. He is a delegate of TEDMED, whose purpose is to influence progress in health, medicine, and technology. He is a member of the Mental Wellness Initiative of the Global Wellness Institute, whose mission is to empower wellness worldwide by educating the public and private sectors about preventative health and wellness. He shares his expertise in Neuroplasticity & Mental Wellness in a peer reviewed article and a published White Paper , where his aim is to educate others in gaining a better understanding of brain plasticity throughout the lifespan.
Dr. Choy resides in Silicon Valley with his lovely wife and wonderful son. Incorporating wellness into his everyday life is integral. He is diligent in practicing daily mindfulness meditation and yoga. He loves to golf and stays active in CrossFit. He travels the world to immerse himself in different cultures and has visited various countries and regions in Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America. Lastly, He is passionate about lifelong learning and dedicates himself to cultivating the well-being of others to make our world a better place. It is especially gratifying for him to see the direct positive impact of treatment in improving the quality of life for his patients.
